Sant Cugat del Vallés Monastery
This monument was in its day a Benedictine abbey that was later converted into a monastery.
The architectural site consists of a church built in the 11th and 12th centuries and a Romanesque cloister around which the Chapter House and the monastic rooms are located. The cloister dates back to the sixteenth century. Within the actual monastery there are ruins from an ancient Paleochristian building. The church bell tower, the dome and the altarpieces, the most outstanding of which is the one called 'Todos los Santos' (All Saints), by Pere Serra are all delightfully beautiful. This temple has an array of artistic influences from Gothic up to Baroque. The cloister, that is considered as being one of Europe's most notable and beautiful, has seventy capitals adorned with spiritual and secular themes.
