Calvi dell'Umbria
Calvi dell'Umbria, near Narni - Italy
Calvi dell'Umbria is the southernmost comune of Umbria and is set in stunning scenery amidst forests of oak trees. It was once a thriving place until it was devastated by plague in the first quarter of the 16th Century. It is known as the birth place of Bernardo da Calvi, who was a follower of Saint Francis and who was martyred in a Franciscan mission to Morocco. One of the churches here is dedicated to San Francesco on land gifted by Bernardo da Calvi. Another church worthy of note is San'Antonio, a 16th Century building which houses great terracotta figures.
